Targa Super 5EC (Quizalofop ethyl) a post emergent herbicide for the control of grassy weeds was tried at ARS, Dharwad during 2005-06 and 2006-07. The results indicated that application of Targa Super 5EC (Quizalofop ethyl) @1 lit/ha controlled the grassy weeds viz. Panicum spp., Digitaria marginata , Echinochloa Colonem L., Eleusine indica L., Dinebra retroflexa (Vahl) Panz, Alternanthra sessalis and Setaria spp. that were predominant. However, at this concentrations, the notorius weeds Cynodon dactylon and Cyprus rotundus were not controlled effectively. But Cynodon dactylon was controlled to a considerable extent and Cyprus rotundas was not controlled. The number of weeds /m2 and the dry weight of weeds were reduced significatnly in the treatment receiving Targa Super 5EC @ 1 lit/ha. There was no phytotoxicity of Targa Super 5EC on cotton crop in all the concentrations tested. On the basis of mean yield of two years Targa Super 5EC @ 1 lit/ha gave significantly high returns of Rs. 19726/ha and highest additional returns of Rs. 7988/ha over farmers practice and this dose is economical.
